Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) rewards researchers

On August 17, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) announced its annual Club Melbourne Ambassador Program Award winners in a ceremony and acknowledged the recipients of the last three years.

The Names of the winners are Mary Lawson Stephen Durkin, Professor Simon Crowe, Professor Thas A. Nirmalathas, Matthew Jackson, Dr. Gemma Sharp , and Dr. Shoujin Wang.

With the Ambassador Program Award, The Annual Club Melbourne Fellowship is also announced in the ceremony. Dr. Gemma Sharp and Dr. Shoujin Wang are named as the recipients this year. The fellowship is launched to support the next generation of researchers in Melbourne and was created to recognize excellence in research and leadership in mid-career researchers in the city.

The Club Melbourne Ambassador Program includes 126 great Victorians from various disciplines such as medicine, science and environment, technology, engineering, business, and education, and only selected ones are invited to join the Program each year. 

Victoria’s top agency in acquiring and delivering business events, Club Melbourne Ambassadors with the cooperation of the Melbourne Convention Bureau has helped to secure almost 156 businesses for Melbourne, attracting more than 177.4K representatives and contributing $1.02 billion to the Victorian economy since 2005.

All the Ambassadors are highly appraised and respected within their respective fields. Originally there were only 40 Ambassadors in the Club Melbourne Ambassadors in 2005. Now the program includes ambassadors from various fields like medicine, science and environment, technology, engineering, business, and education.

Furthermore, the Club Melbourne is committed to investing in new talents and giving new direction which will help in addressing issues of rapidly increasing international competition and create a stronger, concentrated, and more cooperative network to secure and host international conferences in Melbourne
The club provides a unique opportunity for all the prominent thinkers and leaders of the world to connect as well as promote Melbourne as one of the world’s premier conference and event venues. Its influence is global and how it directs knowledge is significant to the future making Melbourne a forward-thinking, smart economy.

MCEC is the owner of Club Melbourne. The club is led by MCEC with the cooperation of the Melbourne Convention Bureau and the Victorian State Government.

Chief Executive of MCEC, Peter King said that the Club Melbourne awards are significant in thanking and celebrating the Ambassadors for their continuous efforts. He further added that he is proud of the investment and commitment the members have made. Also, MCEC regularly holds some of the largest and most prestigious conferences in the world.

Moreover, he said that the events connect the thought leaders across the world and provide them an opportunity to share knowledge and create memorable experiences for the visitors and a lasting legacy for the community.
