Ashwini Vaishnaw Unveils Future-Ready Railways at IREE 2025, Launching Vande Bharat 4.0

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the 16th International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, under the theme “Future-Ready Railways.” Asia’s largest and the world’s second-largest railway exhibition showcased cutting-edge rail technologies and sustainable solutions from over 450 exhibitors across 15 countries.

Vaishnaw announced the government’s ambitious plan to develop 7,000 km of dedicated passenger corridors across India by 2047, featuring speeds up to 350 kmph with state-of-the-art indigenous signaling systems and modern Operations Control Centres. These corridors align with the Viksit Bharat Vision, setting benchmarks in efficiency, safety, and passenger comfort.

The minister highlighted the success of Vande Bharat trains, noting that Vande Bharat 3.0 accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 52 seconds—faster than many Japanese and European trains—while maintaining minimal noise and vibration. The upcoming Vande Bharat 4.0, launching within 18 months, will enhance passenger experience with advanced interiors, upgraded seating, and refined amenities, aiming to set global standards in rail travel.

In addition, the Amrit Bharat series is progressing, with version 2.0 operational and version 3.0 in development, based on push-pull technology for long-distance routes. Amrit Bharat 4.0 is expected to introduce next-generation trainsets and locomotives within 36 months.

Over the past decade, Indian Railways has modernized significantly: more than 35,000 km of new tracks laid, 46,000 km electrified, and India emerging as a key global exporter of locomotives. Currently, 156 Vande Bharat, 30 Amrit Bharat, and 4 Namo Bharat services operate across India, serving over 20 million passengers daily.

Notable infrastructure milestones include the Chenab Bridge, taller than the Eiffel Tower; Pamban Sea Bridge, India’s first vertical lift bridge; and Bairabi-Sairang Bridge, taller than Qutub Minar. The government allocated ₹1.16 lakh crore this financial year for safety and innovation, including the indigenous KAVACH safety system.

The exhibition from 15–17 October 2025 serves as a global platform to showcase the latest rail and metro technologies, emphasizing sustainability, innovation, and modernization, positioning India as a leading player in the global railway sector.
