Chandigarh exhibition centre Sarangpur is a flagship project proposed under the Union Territory’s new tourism master plan, aimed at elevating Chandigarh’s cultural and tourist appeal. The plan includes constructing a ₹40-crore concert-cum-exhibition centre on 25 acres in Sarangpur as a central node for events, performances, and large gatherings.
This initiative is part of the UT Administration’s first comprehensive tourism master plan, which will be presented to Union Ministers during a two-day meeting in Udaipur. The administration is also preparing proposals worth over ₹100 crore for new tourism infrastructure projects and an additional ₹50 crore for upgrades to existing facilities.
Apart from the exhibition centre in Sarangpur, major components of the tourism vision include:
- A fully digital museum at the Le Corbusier Centre (Sector 19) with AR/VR elements, estimated at ₹20–35 crore.
- A natural history museum in Sector 10, budgeted around ₹35 crore.
Enhancements and amenities at the Rock Garden, city museums, parks, and cultural circuits. - Tourism-oriented development of lakes, green spaces, trekking, boating, cycling, and festivals and performances.
- Officials believe these projects will enrich visitor experience, reinforce Chandigarh’s image as a city blending heritage and modernity, and generate sustainable economic opportunities.
As part of seeking central funding, the UT will leverage the Swadesh Darshan scheme and submit detailed budgets for each project. During the meeting in Udaipur, the UT team will present current tourism statistics, project plans, funding needs, and implementation strategies.
If approved, the Chandigarh exhibition centre Sarangpur will become a landmark venue for trade fairs, cultural shows, conventions, and large events. With its 25-acre footprint, it can host major functions and strengthen Chandigarh’s positioning on the national events map.
