At the heart of Woodstock’s vibrant art scene is a week of creative frenzy—and this year’s Monoprint Invitational was no exception. Between September 6 and 11, the Woodstock School of Art buzzed with collaborative energy as artists and master printers worked in tandem to produce more than 400 monoprints in a six-day sprint.
A monoprint is a rare creature in printmaking—each print is unique, created by applying ink to a plate and transferring it once to paper. In this Invitational, everything from deliberate brushwork to beautiful accidents found a place in the final works.
On opening day, a curated selection of 60 standout prints were presented at a festive auction event, drawing both art buyers and loyal supporters of Woodstock’s artistic legacy. The reception offered a rare chance to bid on art that was conceived live in a shared creative environment.
Executive Director Nina Doyle reflected, “The energy in the studios was electric. The support from the community and the artists’ dedication made this year’s Invitational especially memorable.”
For these artists, the Invitational is more than a showcase—it’s a yearly renewal of creative collaboration anchored by intuitive art-making and skilled guidance in the printmaking studio.
