New York, August 2025 — The Paul Rudolph Institute for Modern Architecture is currently hosting a unique exhibition titled “Architecture = Art: The Susan Grant Lewin Collection” within the dramatic surroundings of the iconic Modulightor Building in Midtown Manhattan. Launched in July, the show merges conceptual drawing and architectural photography in a masterful visual dialogue.
Featuring works by architectural luminaries such as Frank Gehry, Aldo Rossi, Eileen Gray, and Daniel Arsham—among others—the exhibition spans two floors. It includes conceptual and presentation drawings paired with high-art photographs that illustrate how architecture transcends function to become visual storytelling.
Curated by Eshaan Mehta, the exhibition explores the emotional and atmospheric power of architectural sketches. Photographers like Ezra Stoller and Paul Clemence contributed images that evoke aesthetic tension and space, pushing architectural photography into the realm of fine art.
Seated within its eponymous Brutalist structure, the venue enhances the thematic resonance of the show—the juxtaposition of drawn ideas with real-world architectural forms feels particularly layered and meaningful.
The show runs through September 20, 2025, inviting architecture lovers, designers, and curious visitors to engage with the creative process behind some of the world’s most renowned structures.
