Bill Gates seeks partnership with South Korea over global health

On Tuesday, Bill Gates encouraged South Korea to further increase their international efforts to prevent infectious diseases like Covid 19. He emphasized that currently, the need of the world is to be well prepared for the next pandemic.

While speaking to the officials and lawmakers of South Korea in Seoul, Gates summoned for strengthening international cooperation which includes increasing efforts to develop vaccines that would be effective for a wide range of Covid 19 variants. As it is important to overcome the crisis moment in global health.

Bill Gates revealed that his foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and South Korea have a partnership that aims to address the health imbalances between the countries and support the efforts to eliminate infectious diseases all over the world.

He appreciated the strength of South Korea in the field of public health tools, research, and vaccine manufacturing. He further praised the country’s effort to donate USD 200 million to the COVAX distribution program backed by the UN which provided Coronavirus vaccines to the lower income nations.

During his speech at the National assembly, Bill Gates said that there is a lot they need to do together. They need to reach deep, build more partnerships and also need to encourage the scientists.
Furthermore, He said that he is confident that by taking these steps they can continue to radically enhance global health which means decreasing the number of children dying to half, eliminating diseases such as polio, measles, and malaria, and overall improving the health of all human beings.

Later, Bill Gates met the business group leaders of South Korea to further discuss the cooperation on overall health and health projects.

South Korea’s pharmaceutical arm that is SK Bioscience, makes Covid 19 vaccines and has received funds from the Gates Foundation to develop nasal spray-designed vaccines which will help in preventing covid 19 infection. On Tuesday, Gates also met Yoon Suk Yeol, President of South Korea.
