Doon Book Festival 2026 to Transform Dehradun into a Literary Hub

The scenic Doon Valley is gearing up to host one of its most prominent cultural events as the Doon Book Festival 2026 is scheduled to take place from April 4 to April 12, 2026, at Parade Ground. The nine-day literary celebration is being organised by the National Book Trust under the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Government of Uttarakhand.

The announcement was made by Yuvraj Malik, who highlighted the масштаб and vision of the festival during a press conference. Designed to promote reading culture and literary engagement, the festival will feature more than 300 stalls offering a vast collection of books in multiple Indian languages as well as English. With free entry for visitors, the event aims to make literature accessible to a broader audience.

The festival will be inaugurated on April 4 at 10:30 AM by Pushkar Singh Dhami, alongside distinguished dignitaries including Acharya Balkrishna, Milind Sudhakar Marathe, and Yuvraj Malik. Their presence underscores the importance of the event in India’s cultural and educational landscape.

Bringing together authors, readers, intellectuals, and artists from across the country, the Doon Book Festival 2026 will serve as a dynamic platform for literary exchange and cultural dialogue. A key attraction will be the Doon Lit Fest, which will feature prominent personalities from literature, cinema, and public life engaging in discussions on topics such as leadership, history, and evolving societal narratives.

The festival will also place a strong emphasis on regional literature, showcasing works in Garhwali and Kumaoni languages. A dedicated segment will include the launch of 13 translated titles and participation from over 50 regional authors, reinforcing the importance of preserving and promoting local literary traditions.

Beyond books, the event will offer a wide range of interactive and cultural activities, including storytelling sessions, workshops, quizzes, live performances, and musical evenings. These experiences are designed to create an engaging and immersive environment for visitors of all age groups.With its blend of literature, culture, and community engagement, the Doon Book Festival 2026 is set to position Dehradun as a growing literary destination. The festival not only celebrates the joy of reading but also strengthens India’s cultural fabric by fostering dialogue, creativity, and knowledge sharing on a national scale.
