Global Cinema Takes Centre Stage as Delhi International Film Festival 2026 Kicks Off

New Delhi, March 25, 2026: The capital city New Delhi has officially taken a major step onto the global cultural map with the launch of the International Film Festival Delhi (IFFD) 2026, running from March 25 to March 31, 2026. The week-long festival is anchored at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, with additional screenings hosted across leading PVR INOX theatres in the city.

Organised by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation, the inaugural edition of IFFD signals a strong push to position New Delhi as a premier destination for international cinema, cultural exchange, and business events.

Strong Global Participation and Film Line-Up

The festival has attracted remarkable global attention, featuring over 125 films selected from more than 2,100 submissions across 100+ countries. This wide-ranging participation underscores IFFD’s ambition to become a key player in the international film festival circuit.

Grand Opening with International Acclaim

The opening ceremony set an impressive tone with Sirât, directed by Oliver Laxe-a Cannes Jury Prize winner and Academy Award-nominated filmmaker. The festival will conclude with Amoeba, the debut feature by Tan Siyou, highlighting emerging global talent.

Festival director Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra emphasized that IFFD aims to deliver a “world-class cinema experience” while connecting Indian audiences with diverse global storytelling.

Celebrating Cinema: Classics, Indian Films & Global Stories

IFFD 2026 presents a rich and diverse programme, including restored classics, contemporary Indian cinema, and international festival favourites. A major highlight is the 4K restored version of Pyaasa, marking its first-ever screening at an international festival in this format.

Key screenings at Bharat Mandapam include titles such as Sitaare Zameen Par, Made in Korea, and The Mehta Boys, alongside a curated selection of global films.
