India Bioenergy & Tech Expo 2026 Highlights Uttar Pradesh’s Growing Bioenergy Leadership

India Bioenergy & Tech Expo 2026 Highlights Uttar Pradesh’s Growing Bioenergy Leadership

The India Bioenergy & Tech Expo 2026 (IBET 2026) is currently underway at the India Expo Centre & Mart in Greater Noida, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, investors, technology providers and energy experts to accelerate the development of India’s bioenergy sector.

The three-day international exhibition and conference is jointly organised by the Indian Federation of Green Energy (IFGE) and the Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), Government of Uttar Pradesh. The event is focused on advancing bioenergy technologies, encouraging investment and strengthening the role of clean fuels in India’s transition towards a sustainable energy future.

India Bioenergy & Tech Expo 2026 Brings Industry and Policymakers Together

The inaugural session of India Bioenergy & Tech Expo 2026 witnessed the participation of several senior government officials and industry leaders. The event brought together key stakeholders from the renewable energy, biofuels, compressed biogas (CBG), biomass, waste-to-energy and clean technology sectors.

Among the prominent participants were Dr. Ashish Kumar Goel, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Energy and Additional Sources of Energy, Government of Uttar Pradesh and Chairman, UPNEDA; Shri Awanish Kumar Awasthi, Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh; Shri Pankaj Kumar, Joint Secretary–Transmission, Ministry of Power; Shri Ravinder Singh, Director, UPNEDA; Mr. Deepak Ballani, Director General, ISMA; and Mr. Yashodhan Mankame, Executive Vice President–Bioenergy, Praj Industries.

The discussions highlighted the growing importance of bioenergy in achieving energy security, reducing dependence on conventional fuels, supporting farmers and creating new economic opportunities.

Uttar Pradesh Emerging as a Major Bioenergy Hub

Addressing the Special Plenary Session, Shri A.K. Sharma highlighted the importance of India Bioenergy & Tech Expo 2026 at a time when India is accelerating its clean-energy transition.

He stated that Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a leading bioenergy hub and highlighted the state’s strong position in CBG production, solar energy and solar panel installations.

Shri Sharma also invited industry players and investors to explore opportunities in Uttar Pradesh, emphasising the government’s commitment to creating a stable and business-friendly ecosystem for bioenergy projects.

According to him, enabling policies, technology, investment and skill development will be critical to building a strong bioenergy ecosystem in the state.

He also indicated that the suggestion of establishing Centres of Excellence in bioenergy would be considered and called upon industry stakeholders to develop frameworks for training young people and preparing skilled professionals for the growing sector.

CBG and Waste-to-Energy Opportunities in Uttar Pradesh

Shri Awanish Awasthi, Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, highlighted the state’s agricultural resources, expanding CBG ecosystem and supportive policy environment.

He emphasised that bioenergy can play an important role in converting agricultural and urban waste into useful energy while creating rural employment and improving farmers’ incomes.

The state is also looking at opportunities related to CBG equipment manufacturing and Centres of Excellence. Such initiatives could support the development of a wider domestic supply chain while generating new employment opportunities for skilled youth.

With government support and increasing industry participation, Uttar Pradesh aims to make bioenergy an important contributor to both economic development and environmental sustainability.

Uttar Pradesh Targets Large-Scale Bioenergy Expansion

Dr. Ashish Kumar Goel, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Energy and Additional Sources of Energy, Government of Uttar Pradesh and Chairman, UPNEDA, described Uttar Pradesh as the bioenergy capital of India.

He highlighted that more than 30% of India’s CBG plants are located in Uttar Pradesh and pointed to the state’s position as the country’s second-largest ethanol producer.

The state’s “Waste to Wealth” approach focuses on converting available biomass resources into energy, economic value and sustainable livelihoods for farmers.

To encourage investment, Uttar Pradesh is offering capacity-linked incentives, including capital support of ₹75 lakh per TDP for CBG and ₹75,000 per TDP per year for bio-coal.

With 84 CBG plants and eight bio-coal plants in the pipeline, the state is looking to significantly expand its bioenergy infrastructure while strengthening the participation of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), cooperatives and farmers.

Industry Calls for Greater Investment in Bioenergy

Shri Sanjay Ganjoo, Director General, IFGE, said Uttar Pradesh has the scale, agricultural resources and policy ambition required to become one of India’s major bioenergy investment destinations.

The state’s large biomass availability presents opportunities for new industries while creating additional value for farmers and generating employment across rural areas.

He also highlighted the need to bring together investment, technology, industry and skilled manpower to create a commercially viable and sustainable bioenergy ecosystem.

IBET 2026 is providing a platform for investors and industry stakeholders to engage directly with policymakers, explore opportunities in Uttar Pradesh and identify potential partnerships across the bioenergy value chain.

Wide Range of Bioenergy Technologies on Display

The exhibition at India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida features exhibitors representing various segments of the bioenergy and clean-energy industry.

Key technologies and solutions showcased at India Bioenergy & Tech Expo 2026 include compressed biogas (CBG), ethanol, biomass energy, waste-to-energy systems, biofuels, sustainable aviation fuel, biohydrogen and other emerging clean-energy technologies.

The exhibition is also showcasing vehicles powered by biofuels, including bikes, trucks and tractors, demonstrating the expanding applications of clean fuels across transportation and industrial sectors.

India Bioenergy & Tech Expo 2026 Supports India’s Clean Energy Transition

The growing participation of government bodies, investors, technology companies and industry professionals reflects the increasing importance of bioenergy in India’s energy strategy.

Bioenergy can support multiple objectives, including waste management, renewable energy generation, rural employment, agricultural value creation and reduction of dependence on fossil fuels.

Through platforms such as India Bioenergy & Tech Expo 2026, stakeholders can explore new technologies, investment opportunities, government initiatives and commercial applications shaping the future of India’s bioenergy industry.

As Uttar Pradesh strengthens its position as a major bioenergy destination, the state is expected to play an increasingly important role in India’s transition towards cleaner, more sustainable and locally sourced energy solutions.
