IndiGo is facing new trouble because of its aircraft maintenance technicians as a considerable number of technicians took mass leave from major hubs like Hyderabad and Delhi to protest the stated poor increments.
According to a source many technicians didn’t report to the night shift on 8 July. The officials of the airline are observing the situation in Hyderabad and Delhi closely. Adequate actions have been taken in this regard and so far there are no delays and disruptions in flight schedules because of the technician’s trouble. Apart from technicians, several pilots and cabin crew went on mass leave. done by it.
The reason behind their mass leaves is said to be the salary provided the same as in the days of the pandemic. Salary cuts in the recent months encouraged the anger of the crew.
The protest started with pilots planning for mass leaves. Meanwhile, IndiGo suspended some of them in April due to violating their terms of employment and the company’s code of conduct.
On July 2, several cabin crew members of IndiGo attended the walk-in interview organized by Air India of Tata Group. Consequently, 55 percent of IndiGo flights were delayed and even a few had to be canceled.
Moreover, the DGCA ordered the airline to compensate the passengers for delayed flights per regulations knowing the fact that IndiGo called it a single-time incident.
IndiGo revised its pandemic time salary cuts earlier this week to end the dissatisfaction among its pilots. The step is taken at a time when newly established Akasa Air and well-known Air India are actively hiring trained cabin crew.
Hence, IndiGo has reversed additional 8 percent covid time pay cuts and gotten back to rostering strategy that will increase pilots’ compensation but decrease leave time. Furthermore, several pilot allowances have been restored.
At the peak of COVID-19, IndiGo had roughly reduced the pay by 28 percent and current pay is still 16 percent lower than the levels compared to the salary before the pandemic.
