Phuket to Host Global Sustainable Tourism Conference (GSTC) 2026, Reinforcing Thailand’s Leadership in Responsible Travel

Phuket is set to take centre stage in the global tourism landscape as it prepares to host the Global Sustainable Tourism Conference (GSTC) 2026 from April 21–24, 2026. The prestigious event will position Thailand as a leading force in sustainable tourism development and innovation.

Organised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand and key industry partners, the conference is expected to attract between 600 and 700 delegates representing over 30 to 60 countries worldwide. This strong international participation highlights the growing importance of sustainability within the global travel and tourism sector.

Recognised as one of the most influential platforms in the industry, the GSTC Conference brings together policymakers, tourism boards, academics, sustainability experts, and private sector leaders. The event serves as a critical forum for shaping global standards, policies, and best practices in responsible tourism.

The 2026 edition will focus on key themes including carbon emission reduction, biodiversity conservation, community-based tourism, destination management, and sustainable hospitality systems. These discussions aim to accelerate the transition from voluntary sustainability initiatives to structured, measurable, and accountable frameworks across the tourism ecosystem.

The conference will be hosted across prominent venues such as the Royal Phuket City Hotel, Courtyard by Marriott Phuket Town, and Kata Thani Beach Resort and Spa. These locations will provide a comprehensive environment for knowledge sharing, networking, and strategic collaboration among global stakeholders.

Thailand’s selection as the host country reflects its growing commitment to sustainable tourism and its strategic vision to position Phuket as a global hub for responsible travel and innovation. The event is also expected to generate significant economic opportunities, boost tourism-related businesses, and strengthen international partnerships.

As sustainability continues to shape the future of travel, GSTC 2026 is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing global dialogue, fostering collaboration, and driving impactful change across the tourism industry.
