Shanghai New International Expo Centre Announces Major Facility Upgrade During Lunar New Year Break

The Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), one of China’s leading exhibition venues, has initiated a comprehensive upgrade project during the Lunar New Year break. With no scheduled exhibitions during this period, the venue is leveraging the downtime to modernize infrastructure and enhance visitor experience.

In 2025, SNIEC hosted 127 exhibitions and events across its expansive 300,000 sqm space, achieving a venue occupancy rate of 64%. The current upgrades are part of its continued commitment to delivering high-quality services to global clients.

Focus on Air Conditioning and Core Infrastructure

The first phase of the upgrade focuses on improving air conditioning systems in the West Halls and the No. 1 Entrance Lobby. The project includes the installation of energy-efficient units with enhanced cooling capacity and improved airflow.

According to Michael Kruppe, the initiative aims to create a more efficient, stable, and intelligent indoor environment. The upgrades follow a strategy of “holistic planning and phased implementation” to ensure seamless execution.

Restroom Expansion and Facility Enhancements

Alongside HVAC improvements, SNIEC is refurbishing 152 restrooms across the venue. Plans are also underway to increase the number of restroom units wherever feasible, helping reduce congestion during peak event hours.

Additional upgrades include improvements to sewage and ventilation systems, which will significantly enhance air quality and overall hygiene standards within the venue.

Sustainable and Low-Carbon Upgrades

Sustainability remains a key focus of the project. SNIEC is incorporating low-carbon materials and energy-efficient equipment in its upgrades, aligning with global environmental standards and reducing its carbon footprint.

Phased Development Without Disruptions

All upgrade works are being carried out in carefully planned phases to ensure that ongoing and upcoming exhibitions are not disrupted. This approach allows SNIEC to maintain its operational efficiency while implementing large-scale improvements.

A Global Exhibition Hub with a Strong Legacy

A Sino-German joint venture, SNIEC has served as a vital bridge between international businesses and the Chinese market for over 24 years. The venue continues to strengthen its position as a premier destination for exhibitions, trade shows, and global events.

With these upgrades, SNIEC aims to deliver its signature “S+” level service, ensuring an enhanced experience for organizers, exhibitors, sponsors, and visitors alike.
