Sri Lanka Cricket inadequate to host Asia Cup T20

On Wednesday, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) informed the Asia Cricket Council (ACC) about their situation and difficulty to host the mega event Asia Cup T20 by writing a letter. Hence, the mega event will not be held in Sri Lanka and the announcement is only a few days away to confirm this. The board of Sri Lanka Cricket is not able to host the upcoming event of Asia Cup T20 due to the economical and political situation in the country, as stated by SLC to ACC. Recently, the SLC also postponed the third edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) as a result of the ongoing crisis.

According to an ACC source, Sri Lanka Cricket has informed that because of the current political and economical situation of the country where foreign exchange is concerned. Hence, it is not an ideal situation for them to host Asia Cup T20 for six teams on the island.

The representative of ACC said that they would like to host the event in the UAE or some other country.
The official further added that ACC is likely to announce in the upcoming days as The Asia Cup is scheduled to be held in August and September of this month before the T20 World Cup in Australia.

Furthermore, he added that the UAE is not the final venue for the event, it can be held in some other country even in India as ACC and SLC officials first have to talk to the Emirates Cricket Board Officials to get the required approval to host the event
