The Powerhouse Museum in Parramatta, Western Sydney, is set to open in late 2026 with a landmark exhibition titled “Task Eternal.” This ambitious showcase will explore humanity’s fascination with space exploration, blending science, technology, and art in a unique four-level experience.
A Landmark Space Exhibition
Task Eternal will span 2,200 square metres across four levels, featuring interactive zones where visitors ascend through exhibits housed in an 18-metre-high tower. The exhibition will highlight cutting-edge space technology, artifacts, and artworks from both Australian and international contributors.
Powerhouse CEO Lisa Havilah explained:
“Task Eternal is an exhibition about our human ambition to get into the sky. Visitors will move up through a tower and experience stories, objects, and artworks that reflect our desire to explore space.”
Key Highlights of Task Eternal Exhibition
- Astronaut Katherine Bennell-Pegg’s Spacesuit – Displayed publicly for the first time.
- Prototype Roo-ver Lunar Probe – Developed by the Australian Space Agency for a future moon mission.
- Artistic Installations – Works from First Nations and international artists interpreting the dimensions of space.
- Kinetic Sculpture Inspired by Voyager 1 – By Thai artist Torlap Larpjaroensook.
Powerhouse Parramatta – Australia’s Largest Museum Project
The new Powerhouse Parramatta is Australia’s largest museum investment and will debut with five major exhibitions, with Task Eternal being the first announced. The exhibitions will be temporary, running for one to two years, ensuring a dynamic cultural program.
This marks a historic step for the Powerhouse Museum, which closed its Ultimo site in 2024 for renovations and is expected to reopen in 2027. The Parramatta campus will establish Western Sydney as a hub for science, technology, and cultural exhibitions.
