Tripura Launches Exhibition to Educate Public on New Criminal Laws

In a first for India, Tripura has rolled out an exhibition in Agartala to showcase three landmark criminal laws passed on July 1, 2024. The public installation was inaugurated by Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also holds the Home Ministry portfolio.

These new statutes, framed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and ratified by Parliament, are designed to simplify legal procedures, promote efficiency in criminal justice, and ensure timely delivery of judgments.

Chief Minister Saha stressed that delayed justice undercuts public faith in the legal system. The laws on display aim to address exactly this issue—streamlining the bureaucratic process so that legal redress is faster and more reliable.

The exhibition is being held at Tripura’s Indoor Exhibition Hall, and spans five days. Its objective is to inform citizens about their rights under the updated criminal laws and to demystify what legal reform means in practical terms.

Officials involved revealed that this exhibition was conceived after discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Guwahati, focusing on implementation strategies across states.

As the only state to host such an exhibition on criminal laws, Tripura is setting a precedent in legal literacy and public engagement in governance.

By offering a transparent forum, the exhibition helps citizens understand how the new laws affect case handling, procedural timelines, and rights of defendants and victims alike.

For Exhibition Globe, this initiative underscores the evolving role of exhibitions—not just for trade or culture but also for public education, policy outreach, and strengthening democratic institutions.

Going forward, similar formats could become more widespread, where exhibitions serve as bridges between legal authorities and citizens, enhancing awareness and participation.
