GL Events Selected to Deliver Infrastructure for COP17 UNCCD in Mongolia

Global integrated events company GL events has been awarded the contract to provide temporary infrastructure for the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, set to take place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from 17–28 August 2026.

The high-level international summit is expected to welcome nearly 10,000 delegates from more than 190 countries under the theme “Restore Nature, Revive Hope,” positioning Mongolia at the center of global environmental dialogue.

44,500 Sqm of Temporary Structures for COP17

The Municipality of Ulaanbaatar awarded the contract to GL events following an international tender and a rigorous three-stage selection process. The project includes the installation of approximately 44,500 square metres of temporary infrastructure on the outskirts of the capital.

The setup will accommodate conference halls, meeting rooms, media facilities, and delegate service areas to support the large-scale UN climate and sustainability event.

GL events received the official award confirmation on 11 February 2026 and has already initiated operational planning and team deployment to ensure timely execution.

Proven Experience in Global COP Conferences

GL events brings extensive experience in delivering infrastructure for major international summits. Between 2011 and 2024, the company supported 11 COP conferences. Most recently, it provided infrastructure solutions for COP16 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Commenting on the contract, Olivier Ginon, Chairman and CEO of GL events Group, stated that the selection reflects strong confidence in the company’s expertise in managing complex, large-scale global events. He also emphasized close collaboration with local authorities to ensure world-class delivery standards.

COP17 to Address Desertification and Climate Challenges

COP17 under the UNCCD framework will serve as a key international platform for governments, policymakers, environmental organisations, and industry stakeholders to address desertification, sustainable land management, land degradation, and climate change challenges.

With nearly 10,000 delegates expected, the conference will play a critical role in shaping global environmental policies and advancing sustainable development goals.

Through its infrastructure expertise and global event experience, GL events is set to play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful delivery of COP17 in Mongolia, reinforcing its leadership in international summit and mega-event execution.
