UFI Elects Oman’s Said Al Shanfari as Future President
The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) has elected Said Al Shanfari, CEO of the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, as its President for the 2027–2028 term. He will officially join UFI’s Presidential Trio as Incoming President in November 2026 before assuming the presidency during the 94th UFI Global Congress in Guadalajara, Mexico, in November 2027.
Al Shanfari currently serves as Chair of UFI’s Middle East and Africa Chapter, reinforcing the growing influence of the Middle East within the international exhibition industry.
Bahrain to Host the 93rd UFI Global Congress
Bahrain has been selected to host the 93rd UFI Global Congress from 2–5 November 2026 at Exhibition World Bahrain in Sakhir.
The prestigious gathering will welcome exhibition organizers, venue operators, association executives, suppliers, and industry leaders from around the world for networking, educational sessions, and strategic discussions. UFI has confirmed that participant safety remains its highest priority while monitoring regional developments.
Hong Kong Expects More Than 770 Exhibitors Across Three Major Events
Hong Kong is preparing for one of its busiest exhibition weeks as the Hong Kong Book Fair, Hong Kong Sports and Leisure Expo, and World of Snacks take place simultaneously at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Running from 15–21 July, the combined events are expected to feature more than 770 exhibitors representing nearly 30 countries and regions. Visitors will also enjoy over 600 cultural activities taking place both inside the venue and across Hong Kong, with a single admission ticket providing access to all three exhibitions.
Australia Secures Major International Conference and Stadium Upgrade
Australia continues strengthening its business events sector after Darwin won the bid to host the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) 33rd Triennial World Conference in 2032.
The conference is expected to attract over 500 international delegates, while Darwin will also host the ACWW Pacific Area Conference in 2027 with approximately 200 participants.
Meanwhile, Stadiums Queensland has announced the largest redevelopment of Suncorp Stadium since its 2003 reconstruction. Planned improvements include larger digital screens, a 360-degree LED ribbon board, upgraded hospitality facilities, safe-standing sections, and increased seating capacity. Construction is expected to begin toward the end of 2026.
UFI Appoints Helen Mantellato as Asia-Pacific Vice Chair
UFI has also announced the election of Helen Mantellato, Senior Manager of Business Development (International and Exhibitions) at the International Convention Centre Sydney, as Vice Chair of its Asia-Pacific Chapter.
Her three-year term begins following UFI’s General Assembly in November 2026. Mantellato also chairs the New South Wales Chapter of the Australian Business Events Association.
EuroShop Middle East Postponed Until 2027
Messe Düsseldorf has postponed the inaugural EuroShop Middle East exhibition to 25–27 October 2027 at Dubai World Trade Centre.
Originally planned for 2026, organizers stated that the revised schedule will provide exhibitors, visitors, and partners with greater planning certainty. The exhibition will focus on retail technology, shopfitting, store design, visual merchandising, and retail innovation.
Mexico Prepares for Busy August Trade Show Calendar
Mexico will host six major international trade exhibitions throughout August.
Among the highlights are:

Barcelona Records Strong Growth Across Multiple Events
Barcelona continues to strengthen its position as one of Europe’s leading exhibition destinations.
The co-located Expoquimia and Equiplast exhibitions concluded at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via with 20,803 visitors, representing a 10% increase compared to the previous edition.
Nearly 800 exhibitors showcased more than 1,600 brands, while over 200 conference sessions and activities attracted more than 6,000 participants.
The next joint edition has been scheduled for May 2029.
Barcelona Cybersecurity Congress Returns in November
The Barcelona Cybersecurity Congress will return from 3–5 November at Fira de Barcelona Gran Via, where approximately 6,000 cybersecurity professionals and 100 exhibiting companies are expected to participate.
The event will once again be co-located with Smart City Expo World Congress, encouraging collaboration between cybersecurity experts and urban technology leaders.
Barcelona International Boat Show Expands for 2026
The 63rd Barcelona International Boat Show will take place from 14–18 October at Port Vell.
Organizers have already confirmed participation from more than 130 companies, while over 200 exhibitors are expected overall. Visitors can look forward to expanded sea trials, in-water demonstrations, marina technology displays, diving equipment, and water sports attractions.
Global Exhibitions Day Celebrates 11th Edition
The international exhibition industry celebrated the 11th Global Exhibitions Day on 3 June under the theme “Exhibitions Drive Opportunities.”
The global campaign highlighted the industry’s role in business growth, sustainability, innovation, and career development. The celebrations coincided with the UFI European Conference in İzmir, Türkiye, which welcomed over 400 delegates.
The next Global Exhibitions Day will be observed on 2 June 2027.
Olympia London Advances £1.3 Billion Redevelopment
Olympia London has reached another milestone in its £1.3 billion transformation project.
Recent openings include the British Airways ARC entertainment venue and the Hyatt Regency London Olympia hotel. The wider redevelopment will eventually include hotels, restaurants, office space, public areas, cultural venues, and a modern International Convention Centre, with additional facilities opening throughout 2026.
Cisco Live Returns to London After 14 Years
Technology giant Cisco has confirmed that Cisco Live will return to Excel London from 8–12 February 2027 under a new multi-year agreement.
The event is expected to welcome approximately 21,000 technology professionals from around 100 countries and will utilize the venue’s expanded 125,000-square-metre campus, including its recently completed extension.
Cisco Live was last held in London in 2013.
British Motor Museum Expands Corporate Event Facilities
The British Motor Museum in Warwickshire is expanding its meetings and events offering with a new 142-room Fairfield by Marriott hotel, scheduled to open in June 2027.
The venue already offers 17 meeting rooms, exhibition facilities, conference suites, and extensive outdoor event space, making it an increasingly attractive destination for residential conferences and corporate events.
Legends Global Reports Record UK Events Performance
Legends Global has announced a record year for its UK conference and events portfolio, welcoming more than 1.2 million delegates and visitors across venues in London, Manchester, Leeds, Aberdeen, Sheffield, Newcastle, Hull, York, and Derby.
The company also secured multi-year agreements for major events including London Tech Week and future conferences from the British Orthopaedic Association.
Leipzig Opens New City Harbour
Germany’s Leipzig has officially opened Stadthafen Leipzig, a waterfront development completed after 25 years of planning.
The new harbor includes passenger boat facilities, recreational boating infrastructure, waterfront dining, and an event venue capable of hosting up to 110 guests. The destination will celebrate its first Grand Harbour Festival in July.
Vienna Maintains Leadership in Global Association Meetings
Vienna has once again reinforced its status as one of the world’s leading conference destinations.
According to the Union of International Associations (UIA), Vienna hosted 345 international association meetings, placing it first globally.
The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) also ranked Vienna fourth worldwide with 159 qualifying international congresses, while the city secured the number one position globally for medical science meetings.
