Business Events Adelaide has reported a strong winter business events season, with conferences, exhibitions and corporate gatherings generating more than $114 million in economic impact for South Australia between June and August 2026.
Strong delegate participation, interstate visitation and international attendance helped reinforce Adelaide’s position as a destination for business events and corporate incentive programs across Australia and the Asia Pacific region.
The winter calendar featured a diverse range of major business events spanning agriculture, healthcare, medical education, engineering, acoustics and wound care. Five major events alone contributed more than $44 million to the South Australian economy, highlighting the broader economic value of business events to the state.
HORT Connections Drives More Than $20 Million in Economic Impact
One of the major events on Adelaide’s winter calendar was HORT Connections, which returned to the city for the second time in three years.
Hosted at the Adelaide Convention Centre, the event attracted more than 3,900 delegates and over 220 exhibitors. The conference used approximately 12,000 square metres of exhibition space and generated more than $20 million in economic impact.
The event also created opportunities for closer connections between the horticulture industry and Adelaide’s research and education ecosystem.
Researchers from Adelaide University participated in the event, while the Waite Research Institute hosted a dedicated tour for delegates. The engagement highlighted Adelaide’s capabilities in agricultural research, innovation and collaboration between industry and academia.
LambEx2026 Records Highest-Ever Attendance
July brought LambEx2026, a major event for Australia’s red meat and sheep industry. The conference attracted more than 1,450 delegates, marking the highest attendance in the event’s history.
The event also strengthened connections between delegates and South Australia’s agricultural sector. Partnerships involving Livestock SA and the Department of Primary Industries and Regions South Australia provided opportunities for producers, industry organisations, government representatives and businesses to interact with attendees.
One of the highlights was LambEx On Tour, which enabled more than 300 delegates to travel across South Australia.
The program connected delegates with local producers, processors, agribusinesses, researchers, manufacturers and food and beverage businesses. As a result, the benefits of LambEx2026 extended beyond Adelaide into regional communities across the state.
Medical and International Conferences Strengthen Adelaide’s Winter Calendar
Adelaide’s winter business events program also included the Australian Medical Students’ Association National Conference, which attracted more than 800 delegates.
The event brought together the next generation of medical professionals and added another major healthcare-focused gathering to the city’s winter calendar.
In August, Inter-Noise 2026, an international congress and exposition focused on noise control engineering and acoustics, attracted 928 delegates to Adelaide.
The month also featured the Wounds Australia Conference 2026, which welcomed almost 1,000 visitors to the city.
Together, these events demonstrated the diversity of Adelaide’s business events calendar, with the city attracting conferences from a range of professional and industry sectors.
Business Events Support South Australia’s Wider Economy
According to Business Events Adelaide, the economic contribution generated during the winter period extends beyond venue-related spending.
Delegates attending conferences and exhibitions contribute to a wider tourism and business ecosystem through accommodation, restaurants, transport, retail, hospitality, attractions and regional experiences.
Business Events Adelaide Chief Executive Officer Damien Kitto said the results demonstrated the alignment between Adelaide’s business events capabilities and South Australia’s key economic strengths.
He also highlighted the significance of five major business events contributing more than $44 million to the South Australian economy, while pointing to the broader range of events held across the state during winter.
The organisation said the strong results were particularly encouraging because winter is traditionally viewed as an off-peak period for some tourism activity.
Adelaide Promotes Winter as a Business Events Opportunity
Business Events Adelaide is also highlighting Adelaide’s winter conditions as an advantage for business event organisers and delegates.
The city’s relatively mild winter temperatures and low rainfall can provide opportunities for delegates to combine conference programs with tourism and regional experiences.
Delegates can explore South Australia’s wine regions, nature destinations and wildlife experiences as part of incentive programs and post-conference activities.
This combination of business infrastructure and leisure experiences is increasingly important for destinations competing for national and international conferences, corporate incentives and industry events.
Business Events Adelaide Builds Industry and Regional Connections
The winter calendar also delivered opportunities for stronger relationships between business events and South Australia’s local industries.
HORT Connections provided a platform for interaction between delegates and Adelaide’s agricultural research community, while LambEx2026 created direct connections with producers and businesses throughout the state.
The LambEx On Tour initiative was particularly significant in extending delegate activity into regional South Australia.
More than 300 delegates participated in the program, creating opportunities for local businesses and industry stakeholders to showcase their products, services and expertise directly to an international and interstate audience.
Such programs can provide business events with benefits that extend beyond the duration of the conference itself.
Adelaide Heads Into a Busy Spring Business Events Calendar
Following a strong winter season, Business Events Adelaide is now preparing for an equally busy spring and summer calendar.
The upcoming schedule includes the Undersea Technology Summit, which is expected to bring approximately 2,000 global delegates to Adelaide in November.
The event will further expand Adelaide’s profile as a destination for international business gatherings while supporting the city’s wider technology and innovation ecosystem.
Business Events Adelaide said its upcoming calendar remains strong, while South Australia continues to offer a broad selection of venues, suppliers, experiences and destinations for conference and incentive organisers.
Business Events Adelaide Strengthens South Australia’s Global Profile
The more than $114 million economic impact generated during winter 2026 underlines the role of business events in supporting South Australia’s tourism, hospitality, education, research, agriculture, healthcare and professional sectors.
From major exhibitions such as HORT Connections to international conferences such as Inter-Noise 2026, Adelaide’s winter schedule demonstrated the range of events the city can accommodate.
The combination of major convention facilities, industry expertise, research institutions, regional destinations and delegate experiences is helping Business Events Adelaide attract events across multiple sectors.
With a busy spring calendar ahead, Adelaide is continuing to position itself as a destination for conferences, exhibitions, corporate incentives and international business events, while seeking to generate both immediate economic activity and longer-term industry connections for South Australia.
