Business Events Adelaide has reported a strong winter business events season, with conferences and industry gatherings held across Adelaide between June and August generating more than $114 million in economic impact for South Australia.
The strong performance has been supported by high delegate participation, interstate visitors and international attendees, highlighting Adelaide’s growing role as a destination for business events, conferences and corporate incentive programs across Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
Adelaide Records Strong Winter Business Events Performance
The winter business events calendar delivered a diverse mix of conferences spanning agriculture, healthcare, medical education, engineering and wound care. According to Business Events Adelaide, five major events alone contributed more than $44 million to the South Australian economy during the season.
The results underline the contribution that business events make to the state beyond venue-based spending, with delegates travelling across Adelaide and regional South Australia for accommodation, dining, tourism, transport, entertainment and industry engagement.
Business Events Adelaide said the winter calendar demonstrated the breadth of Adelaide’s business events capabilities and its ability to attract events aligned with key sectors of the South Australian economy.
HORT Connections 2026 Drives More Than $20 Million
The winter calendar began strongly with HORT Connections 2026, which returned to Adelaide for the second time in three years. The event generated more than $20 million in economic impact for South Australia.
Hosted at the Adelaide Convention Centre, HORT Connections 2026 utilised approximately 12,000 square metres of exhibition space and welcomed more than 3,900 delegates along with over 220 exhibitors.
The event brought together professionals from the horticulture sector and provided opportunities for industry networking, knowledge exchange, exhibitions and business development.
Its return to Adelaide also strengthened connections between the horticulture industry and South Australia’s research and education ecosystem.
Adelaide University Strengthens Agricultural Industry Connections
HORT Connections also created opportunities for delegates to engage directly with Adelaide University and its internationally recognised agricultural research capabilities.
Researchers from Adelaide University participated in the event, while the Waite Research Institute hosted a dedicated tour for delegates. The initiative provided visitors with an opportunity to learn more about agricultural research, innovation and collaboration taking place in South Australia.
The engagement further supported Adelaide’s positioning as a location where business events can connect industry participants with researchers, universities and specialist knowledge centres.
LambEx2026 Achieves Record Attendance
July brought LambEx2026, an important conference for Australia’s red meat and sheep industry. The event attracted more than 1,450 delegates, representing the largest attendance in the conference’s history.
LambEx2026 also strengthened relationships between the business events sector, Livestock SA and the Department of Primary Industries and Regions South Australia.
The conference provided opportunities for South Australian producers, businesses, government representatives, researchers and industry organisations to interact with delegates attending from outside the state.
LambEx On Tour Extends Economic Benefits to Regional South Australia
One of the notable initiatives associated with LambEx2026 was LambEx On Tour, which expanded the event experience beyond Adelaide.
More than 300 delegates participated in the program, travelling across South Australia to connect directly with producers, processors, agribusinesses, researchers, manufacturers, and food and beverage businesses.
The initiative helped extend the benefits of the conference into regional communities and created additional opportunities for delegates to experience South Australia’s agricultural and business ecosystem.
For the state’s regional economy, such programs can provide an important link between major conferences and local businesses, helping business events generate benefits beyond the primary host venue.
Medical Students Conference Brings Future Healthcare Professionals
The July calendar also featured the Australian Medical Students’ Association National Conference, which attracted more than 800 delegates.
The event brought together medical students and emerging healthcare professionals, providing Adelaide with another opportunity to host a national gathering connected to a strategically important sector.
The conference contributed to the diversity of Adelaide’s winter business events program, demonstrating the city’s ability to accommodate events ranging from major industry exhibitions to professional and educational conferences.
Inter-Noise 2026 Attracts International Delegates
In August, Adelaide hosted Inter-Noise 2026, an international congress and exposition focused on noise control engineering and acoustics.
The event attracted 928 delegates to the city, providing an international platform for professionals working across engineering, acoustics, noise control and related fields.
International congresses such as Inter-Noise also contribute to Adelaide’s global business events profile by bringing specialists and industry professionals from different markets together in South Australia.
Wounds Australia Conference 2026 Adds to August Calendar
Another major August event was the Wounds Australia Conference 2026, which welcomed almost 1,000 visitors to Adelaide.
The conference added another healthcare-focused event to the city’s winter schedule and contributed to the broader economic activity generated by business events during the June-August period.
Together, Inter-Noise 2026 and Wounds Australia Conference 2026 demonstrated the variety of sectors represented in Adelaide’s business events calendar.
Five Major Events Generate More Than $44 Million
Business Events Adelaide Chief Executive Officer Damien Kitto said the strong winter results reflected alignment between Adelaide’s business events offering and South Australia’s economic strengths.
Kitto highlighted the combined economic contribution of the five major business events, which exceeded $44 million for South Australia.
He also pointed to the broader significance of the winter calendar, noting that Adelaide hosted business events covering a wide range of industries and areas of economic activity.
The performance is particularly notable because the winter months are traditionally considered an off-peak period for some destinations. Business Events Adelaide said the results demonstrate continued demand for Adelaide as a business events destination during this period.
Adelaide Promotes Winter Business Events Potential
Business Events Adelaide has also highlighted Adelaide’s winter conditions as part of its appeal for conferences, incentives and corporate gatherings.
The city’s generally mild winter temperatures and relatively low rainfall can allow delegates to combine conference programs with tourism and leisure experiences.
Delegates can travel to South Australia’s wine regions, explore nature-based attractions and participate in wildlife experiences during their business trips.
This combination of professional events and destination experiences is an increasingly important consideration for organisers planning conferences and incentive programs.
Business Events Deliver Long-Term Industry Connections
The economic impact of Adelaide’s winter business events calendar extends beyond delegate spending during individual conferences.
Events such as HORT Connections and LambEx2026 created opportunities for delegates to interact with South Australian universities, government agencies, producers, researchers and businesses.
These connections can support knowledge sharing, commercial relationships and future collaboration between local organisations and national or international visitors.
For South Australia, the business events sector therefore provides both immediate visitor expenditure and opportunities to promote the state’s capabilities across agriculture, healthcare, research, manufacturing and other industries.
Business Events Adelaide Prepares for Busy Spring Season
Following a successful winter, Business Events Adelaide is now preparing for an equally busy spring calendar.
The upcoming schedule includes the Undersea Technology Summit, which is expected to bring approximately 2,000 global delegates to Adelaide in November.
The summit will add another international business event to the city’s calendar and provide opportunities for Adelaide to showcase its technology, research and industry capabilities to a global audience.
Business Events Adelaide said the upcoming schedule remains strong, while South Australia’s range of venues, experiences and suppliers continues to provide opportunities for additional conferences and business events.
Adelaide Strengthens Position as Business Events Destination
The more than $114 million economic impact recorded during winter provides a significant indicator of the role business events play in South Australia’s visitor economy.
From horticulture and agriculture to healthcare, engineering and specialist international congresses, Adelaide’s winter calendar demonstrated the ability to attract events across multiple industries.
The combination of convention facilities, industry expertise, research institutions, regional destinations and tourism experiences continues to support Adelaide’s business events proposition.
