Coventry & Warwickshire Strengthens Premium MICE Position as Industry Leaders Call for Smarter Business Event Strategies

Coventry and Warwickshire continue to outperform many UK regions in attracting business events, according to leading industry experts, but stakeholders have been urged to work smarter and collaborate more closely to maintain the region’s competitive advantage in the rapidly evolving meetings and events industry.

The message was delivered during a major gathering of the Coventry & Warwickshire Convention Bureau’s MICE Venues Association, where nearly 100 representatives from conference venues, hotels, exhibition centres, event suppliers, and tourism organizations met at the Coventry Building Society Arena to discuss current market trends and future growth opportunities.

Coventry & Warwickshire MICE Sector Shows Strong Revenue Growth

The Coventry & Warwickshire Convention Bureau, which operates under Destination Coventry, organized the event to encourage collaboration across the region’s meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) industry.

The association aims to promote Coventry and Warwickshire as a unified business events destination while providing members with valuable market intelligence, networking opportunities, and industry insights.

The meeting was chaired by Chris Hartley and featured presentations from leading MICE industry specialists:

  • Jason Gutteridge – Venue Directory
  • Jacqui Kavanagh – Edge Venues
  • Peter Heath – Venue Performance

Together, these organizations provide venues with buyer access, enquiry generation, benchmarking data, digital marketing visibility, and performance analytics to improve business conversion rates.

Premium Position Driving Higher Revenue Despite Fewer Bookings

Industry experts revealed that the Coventry & Warwickshire MICE sector continues to maintain a premium reputation within the UK business events market.

Although the region has experienced a decline in the total number of event bookings over the past year, revenue generated from confirmed events has increased significantly.

Experts emphasized that this reflects the region’s ability to attract higher-value conferences and meetings rather than competing purely on price.

Instead of offering discounts, venues were encouraged to protect their premium positioning and focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences.

Fast Response Times Becoming Essential for Winning Business

One of the strongest messages during the meeting was the growing importance of responding quickly to client enquiries.

Modern event buyers increasingly expect almost immediate responses when requesting proposals and researching venues online.

Industry data suggests that responding to a Request for Proposal (RFP) within approximately two hours significantly improves the chances of securing business.

Delegates were encouraged to:

  • Regularly audit online venue listings.
  • Update venue photography and floor plans.
  • Ensure room capacities and facilities are accurate.
  • Monitor enquiry response times.
  • Track conversion rates using performance data.
  • Respond professionally to every enquiry, including declined bookings, to protect brand reputation.
Post-Pandemic Booking Trends Continue to Evolve

Speakers explained that the surge in corporate meetings and conferences seen immediately after the COVID-19 pandemic has now begun to stabilize.

During the post-pandemic recovery, many organizations organized more face-to-face events as employees returned from remote working environments.

That exceptional demand has now normalized, making competition among venues much stronger.

Industry experts stressed that venues must adapt to changing buyer behavior through improved digital visibility, faster communication, and stronger customer engagement.

Industry Leaders Highlight Importance of Value Over Price

Jacqui Kavanagh of Edge Venues highlighted that success in today’s MICE industry is no longer determined by venue size or low pricing.

She explained that the highest-performing venues are those that make it easy for buyers to discover accurate information, build trust, and complete bookings efficiently.

According to Kavanagh, the business events market is evolving rapidly, and venues that embrace change are seeing the strongest performance.

Coventry & Warwickshire Continues to Outperform Regional Competitors

Peter Heath from Venue Performance noted that Coventry and Warwickshire continue to outperform many neighbouring regions despite a reduction in confirmed events.

However, he warned that venues must remain proactive because national booking lead times have reduced dramatically over the past year.

With buyers making decisions much faster than before, venues that fail to recognize these market changes risk losing valuable business opportunities.

Discounting Not the Solution, Experts Warn

Jason Gutteridge of Venue Directory emphasized that although Request for Proposal (RFP) volumes may fluctuate, reducing prices is not the answer.

With operational costs continuing to rise across the hospitality and events industry, maintaining value while improving responsiveness is considered a more sustainable long-term strategy.

Experts agreed that protecting pricing integrity while delivering excellent customer service will help venues remain competitive.

Regional Collaboration Key to Future MICE Growth

Paul McMahon, Managing Director of the Coventry & Warwickshire Convention Bureau and Visit Coventry, reinforced the importance of regional collaboration.

He said Coventry and Warwickshire’s business events industry can only achieve its full potential if venues, hotels, attractions, suppliers, and tourism partners work together rather than promoting themselves individually.

The bureau is strengthening this collaborative approach through joint participation at major trade shows and the development of a unified digital marketing presence representing the entire region.

McMahon emphasized that presenting Coventry and Warwickshire through one compelling regional story will help attract more conferences, exhibitions, corporate meetings, and international business events.

Coventry & Warwickshire Building a Leading UK Business Events Destination

The latest industry meeting demonstrated that while Coventry & Warwickshire’s MICE sector remains one of the UK’s strongest regional performers, continued success will depend on innovation, collaboration, digital excellence, and maintaining premium service standards.

By protecting value, improving buyer experiences, and strengthening regional partnerships, Coventry and Warwickshire aim to further establish themselves as one of the UK’s leading destinations for conferences, meetings, exhibitions, and corporate events.
