Events Industry Rallies Behind David Walmsley’s 30 in 30 Mental Health Challenge
In an inspiring demonstration of endurance and community spirit, events industry professional David Walmsley has successfully completed his remarkable 30 in 30 Challenge, running 30 marathons in 30 consecutive days from the Isle of Skye to London. As part of the initiative, Walmsley presented a £4,000 cheque to Backup Tech during the ABTT Theatre Show at Alexandra Palace, London, on 3 June 2026.
The cheque was presented to Lee Dennison, Chair and Trustee of Backup Tech, alongside Jez Berryman, Managing Director of Crewsaders, the company that sponsored David throughout his incredible fundraising journey.
£4,000 Donation to Strengthen Support for Live Events Professionals
The £4,000 donation forms part of Walmsley’s wider fundraising campaign, which has generated more than £20,000 for mental health charities, including Backup Tech, Mind, and Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH).
Over the course of April 2026, David covered an astonishing 786 miles, drawing widespread support from professionals across the events, entertainment, and production industries. His mission aimed to raise awareness of the mental health challenges faced by people working in demanding, high-pressure live event environments while generating vital financial support for charities making a real difference.
Backup Tech to Use Funds for Industry Support
Speaking during the cheque presentation, Lee Dennison praised Walmsley’s outstanding achievement and highlighted the importance of the donation for the industry.
“David’s achievement is nothing short of extraordinary. Thirty marathons in thirty days is a true test of resilience, commitment and purpose. To see £4,000 donated to Backup Tech makes it even more meaningful, as that money will go straight back into supporting the live events industry and the amazing people who work within it. It is a powerful reminder of what this industry stands for: generosity, determination and looking after one another.”
The donation will directly contribute to Backup Tech’s ongoing efforts to provide assistance and support to professionals working across the live events sector.
Crewsaders Reaffirms Commitment to Mental Health and Wellbeing
At the presentation ceremony, Crewsaders Managing Director Jez Berryman reaffirmed the company’s commitment to promoting mental health awareness and supporting initiatives that improve wellbeing within the events industry.
He stated that mental health and wellbeing are fundamental to building sustainable, high-performing teams and praised David’s challenge for bringing important conversations into the spotlight.
Berryman added that raising funds for organisations such as Backup Tech provides both awareness and practical support when it is needed most. He emphasized that looking after people remains a core value at Crewsaders and that supporting campaigns like the 30 in 30 Challenge reflects the company’s commitment to creating a healthier and more supportive industry.
30 in 30 Challenge Inspires the Events Community
David Walmsley’s extraordinary 30 in 30 Challenge has become a powerful symbol of resilience, compassion, and industry solidarity. Beyond the impressive physical achievement of completing 30 marathons in 30 days, the campaign has successfully raised significant funds and increased awareness of mental health issues affecting professionals across the live events sector.
With more than £20,000 raised and strong backing from organisations like Crewsaders and Backup Tech, the initiative demonstrates the positive impact that collective action and community support can have in promoting mental wellbeing throughout the events industry.
