The European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) Annual Conference & Exhibition 2026 delivered a major economic boost to Aberdeen, Scotland, generating an estimated £13.2 million (approximately USD 17.6 million) for the local economy. Hosted at P&J Live from 8–11 June 2026, the international event welcomed more than 6,000 delegates, 200 exhibitors, and featured over 1,400 technical presentations, reinforcing Aberdeen’s position as a leading destination for global energy and geoscience events.
Global Energy and Geoscience Professionals Gather in Aberdeen
The 87th EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition was held under the theme “Maximizing Value Through Technology and Partnership.” The conference attracted geoscientists, engineers, researchers, academics, students, exhibitors, and industry leaders from around the world to discuss the latest developments in energy, subsurface science, engineering, and emerging technologies.
While the main conference ran from 8 to 11 June, associated meetings, networking sessions, and exhibition activities extended across six days, creating significant business opportunities for attendees and exhibitors alike.
Conference Boosts Aberdeen’s Hospitality and Local Economy
The large-scale international event generated substantial business for Aberdeen’s hospitality and service sectors. Hotels across the city experienced near full occupancy during the conference, while restaurants, bars, transport providers, and local suppliers benefited from the influx of international visitors.
P&J Live also reported approximately 5,500 hours of casual employment during the event’s build-up, live operations, and dismantling phases, highlighting the conference’s contribution to local jobs and event services.
Organisers Highlight Successful Industry Partnership
Commenting on the event’s success, Steve Daun, Head of Sales, Associations at Legends Global, said the conference demonstrated both the scale of the event and the strength of collaboration between organisers and local partners.
He noted that welcoming more than 6,000 participants, 200 exhibitors, and delivering a programme featuring over 1,400 presentations reflected the successful partnership that helped position Aberdeen as a premier destination for international association conferences.
Education and Outreach Inspire Future Geoscientists
Beyond the business programme, EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition 2026 also focused on education and community engagement through its dedicated EAGE Outreach Day.
The initiative welcomed more than 200 students from 11 schools, introducing young people to career opportunities in geoscience, engineering, and the evolving energy sector through interactive learning experiences.

According to Professor John Underhill, Interdisciplinary Director for Energy Transition at the University of Aberdeen, hosting the conference provided an opportunity to showcase the region’s internationally recognised expertise in energy, engineering, and geoscience.
He emphasised that the event created a lasting legacy through technical field trips, educational outreach, and engagement with the next generation of industry professionals, while strengthening Aberdeen’s reputation as a global centre for energy innovation and collaboration.
