Excel London is seeing strong returns from its major expansion, with 10 international congresses generating an estimated £250 million ($337 million) for London’s visitor economy during the first year of the venue’s expanded operations.
The £220 million ($296 million) Excel London expansion has significantly increased the venue’s capacity and helped attract larger international conferences, congresses and exhibitions. During its first 12 months, the expanded facility hosted 30 major international events, collectively using around 500,000 square meters of rented event space.
Excel London Expansion Boosts International Events
The 25,000-square-meter expansion increased Excel London’s total event space to 125,000 square meters, strengthening its position as one of Europe’s largest fully integrated conference and exhibition venues.
The expanded campus officially opened in summer 2025 with an event from the all-electric Formula E racing series. The investment was backed by ADNEC Group in response to growing demand for larger, more complex and internationally focused events.
The first year of operations has demonstrated the impact of the additional space, particularly in attracting major congresses and international business events to London.
10 International Congresses Deliver $337 Million Economic Impact
According to Excel London, 10 international congresses held within the expanded space attracted approximately 100,000 delegates.
These congresses generated an estimated £250 million, equivalent to around $337 million, for London’s visitor economy. The figure highlights the wider economic importance of major international conferences, which generate spending across hotels, restaurants, transportation, retail and other visitor services.
Across its entire campus, Excel London estimates that it contributes approximately £4.6 billion ($6.2 billion) annually to London’s economy.
The venue currently hosts around 400 events every year and welcomes approximately four million visitors.
U.S. Organizations Drive Excel London Convention Business
North American organizations are playing an increasingly important role in Excel London’s international convention business. The venue reports that U.S.-based organizations account for 60% of its convention and congress business.
Major American companies that have selected London for European conferences include Amazon, Microsoft, Salesforce and Gartner.
The growing presence of U.S. organizations reflects London’s position as a major global business events destination and Excel London’s ability to accommodate large-scale corporate conferences.
Cisco Live to Return to Excel London in 2027
Excel London is also set for another major technology event, with Cisco Live confirmed to return in 2027 under a new multiyear agreement.
The conference is expected to use the entire Excel London venue, demonstrating the growing demand for large-scale technology and business events that require extensive exhibition, conference and networking space.
Excel London has also confirmed seven international congresses for 2027, following a record 10 international congresses scheduled for 2026.
James Rees, executive director of Excel London, said the venue has seen a significant increase in the number, size, scale and complexity of international events since the expansion was approved.
Excel London Plans Further Investment
Following the success of the expansion, Excel London is preparing another multimillion-pound investment program aimed at further improving the venue.
The venue has not yet announced the total investment, project timeline or complete list of planned developments. However, the upcoming investment is expected to focus on facility upgrades and improving the delegate experience.
The additional improvements come as competition for international conferences and exhibitions continues to increase across Europe and the United States.
ADNEC Group Investment Strengthens Excel London
ADNEC Group has invested approximately £350 million ($471 million) in Excel London and related projects in recent years.
The broader investment program includes the venue’s 25,000-square-meter expansion as well as the acquisition of London’s Business Design Centre.
These investments are designed to strengthen London’s position in the international business events market while giving organizers access to larger and more flexible venues.
Excel London Strengthens London’s Global Events Position
The performance of the Excel London expansion demonstrates the growing economic value of international exhibitions, conferences and congresses.
With 125,000 square meters of total event space, a strong pipeline of international congresses and increasing demand from U.S. organizations, Excel London is positioning itself to attract more large-scale events in the coming years.
The venue’s expansion has not only increased its ability to host major events but has also contributed significantly to London’s wider visitor economy. With further investment planned, Excel London is expected to remain a major destination for international exhibitions, conferences, corporate events and congresses.
