Indore, widely recognized as the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh, is set to witness a major infrastructure upgrade with the development of a Multi Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) near Pithampur in Dhar district. The ambitious project aims to strengthen logistics efficiency and accelerate economic growth across the region.
Strategic Location and Project Investment
The MMLP will be developed across 255.17 acres near the industrial hub of Pithampur. The site enjoys strategic connectivity, located close to major industrial clusters including apparel and pharmaceuticals. It is well-linked via the Indore–Tihi–Dahod rail line and the proposed Mhow Ring Road, and lies approx 30 km from Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport and Indore city.
The total project cost is estimated at ₹1,110.58 crore. Out of this, ₹758.10 crore will be invested under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) basis. The project has been awarded to G R Infraprojects Limited, with a concession period of 45 years.
Government Collaboration Through SPV
A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) is being formed with participation from National Highways Logistics Management Limited, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, and Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation. This SPV will provide land, external connectivity, and essential utilities such as water and power supply.
The park will feature seamless connectivity with a four-lane access road from the Mhow–Neemuch highway and a dedicated 6.5 km rail siding from Sagore railway station.
Phased Development and Cargo Capacity
The MMLP will be developed in three phases, with Phase I targeted for completion within two years, enabling early commercial operations. Over a 45-year horizon, the logistics park is expected to handle approximately 12.79 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo.
This development will serve key industrial regions including Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Dhar, Pithampur, Khandwa, and Barwani, significantly enhancing supply chain efficiency.
Part of Bharatmala Pariyojana
The Indore MMLP is being developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana as part of the Logistics Efficiency Enhancement Programme (LEEP) led by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). It is one of 35 strategic Multi Modal Logistics Parks planned across India to reduce logistics costs and improve competitiveness.
Benefits of Multi Modal Logistics Parks
Multi Modal Logistics Parks are integrated hubs that facilitate seamless movement of goods across road, rail, and other transport modes. These parks reduce transportation and handling costs through advanced infrastructure, including container yards, warehouses, silos, and cold storage facilities.
By enabling modal shift between transport systems and offering value-added services under one roof, MMLPs improve operational efficiency while lowering logistics costs as a percentage of GDP.
Economic Impact and Employment Generation
The Indore MMLP is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities and drive industrial growth in central India. It aligns with the vision of PM Gati Shakti, which focuses on enhancing multimodal connectivity and logistics infrastructure.
Once operational, the project will play a crucial role in transforming the logistics landscape, strengthening trade networks, and boosting regional economic development.
