Tokyo has secured six major international conferences scheduled between 2027 and 2029, strengthening its position as a leading global destination for business events and attracting an estimated 19,000 delegates. Around 7,000 of the expected participants are projected to travel from overseas.
The conference wins cover key sectors including technology, engineering, healthcare and life sciences. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB) confirmed the events as part of the city’s growing international business-events pipeline.
Tokyo Wins Six Major International Conferences
The six confirmed conferences will take place at some of Tokyo’s prominent convention venues between 2027 and 2029. The largest event among them is SIGGRAPH Asia 2027, which is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 3, 2027, at Tokyo International Forum.
SIGGRAPH Asia 2027 is expected to attract approximately 10,000 delegates, including around 2,400 international participants. The conference will bring together professionals, researchers, academics and technology experts from across the global computer graphics and digital technology community.
Tokyo International Forum will also host the International Gynecologic Cancer Society Annual Global Meeting from November 4 to 6, 2027. The meeting is expected to welcome approximately 4,000 delegates, including about 1,500 overseas participants.
Healthcare and Life Sciences Conferences Add to Pipeline
Tokyo’s international conference pipeline also includes major events in healthcare, oncology and medical sciences.
The Asian Oncology Nursing Society and International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care meeting will be held from August 5 to 7, 2027, at Ariake Central Tower Hall & Conference. Organizers expect approximately 1,050 delegates, including around 350 international attendees.
The conference will provide an international platform for professionals working in oncology nursing and cancer care to exchange knowledge, research and best practices.
IEEE Conference to Bring Global Technology Experts to Tokyo
In 2028, Tokyo will host the IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems, further highlighting the city’s strength in technology and engineering events.
The conference is scheduled for September 12–15, 2028, at TAKANAWA GATEWAY Convention Center. It is expected to attract around 1,000 delegates, with approximately 700 participants coming from overseas.
The event is expected to bring together researchers, engineers, technology professionals and industry stakeholders working on intelligent transportation systems and related technologies.
Two International Conferences Confirmed for 2029
Tokyo’s international meetings pipeline extends into 2029 with two additional major conferences.
The 51st International Conference on Software Engineering is scheduled for April 22–28, 2029, at Grand Nikko Tokyo Daiba. The conference is expected to attract approximately 2,000 delegates, including around 1,500 international participants.
Software engineering researchers, academics and technology professionals from around the world are expected to participate in the event, creating opportunities for knowledge sharing and international collaboration.
The Asian Pacific Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand will hold its meeting from September 1–4, 2029, at Keio Plaza Hotel. The event is expected to attract approximately 1,100 delegates, including around 600 international attendees.
Technology and Healthcare Drive Tokyo’s Conference Growth
The six international conferences are evenly divided between technology and engineering and healthcare and life sciences. This sector diversity reflects Tokyo’s established strength as a destination for international meetings.

Tokyo is already recognized as one of the leading destinations for international conferences in the Asia-Pacific region.
According to the Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau, Tokyo ranked 10th globally and third in the Asia-Pacific region in the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) 2025 city rankings. The city hosted 119 eligible international conferences during the year.
Tokyo also ranked second globally in the technology category in the 2025 ICCA rankings, highlighting the city’s strong position in technology-focused international meetings.
The latest conference wins build on this performance by securing international business-event activity several years in advance.

Hironobu Fujimura, senior director of TCVB’s Business Events Team, said the bureau hopes the conferences will contribute to academic and technical exchange while generating long-term value for Tokyo and the industries connected to the events.
The upcoming conferences are expected to bring together thousands of international and domestic delegates, providing opportunities for knowledge sharing, business networking, research collaboration and industry development.
