Global events organiser RX Global has officially announced the launch of WTM Spotlight India, a dedicated B2B travel marketplace aimed at connecting international travel suppliers with India’s fast-growing tourism industry. The move marks a strategic expansion of the globally recognised World Travel Market (WTM) portfolio into South Asia, highlighting India’s rising importance in shaping global travel trends.
Inaugural Edition Scheduled for 2027
The first edition of WTM Spotlight India 2027 is set to take place from March 2–4, 2027, at Yashobhoomi (India International Convention and Expo Centre). The event will serve as a focused business platform, bringing together international destinations, tourism boards, airlines, hospitality brands, travel technology providers, and a curated group of Indian buyers.
Designed to drive measurable business outcomes, the event will emphasise quality over quantity, ensuring high-value connections between global exhibitors and verified Indian travel buyers.
Curated Buyer Model for High-Value Engagement
WTM Spotlight India will adopt a curated buyer model, enabling targeted engagement and data-driven matchmaking. This approach is aimed at facilitating structured meetings, meaningful partnerships, and long-term collaborations across the travel and tourism ecosystem.
By prioritising relevance and efficiency, the event seeks to deliver stronger commercial results compared to traditional large-scale exhibitions.
Industry Leaders Highlight India’s Strategic Importance
According to Jonathan Heastie, Portfolio Director of Travel at RX, the launch represents a significant evolution of the WTM brand. He emphasised that India is no longer just a high-growth market but is emerging as a defining force in global travel demand, requiring a more structured and commercially focused platform.
Meanwhile, Umang Gupta, Country Head of RX India, noted that India’s travel sector is entering a new phase characterised by diversification, premiumisation, and expansion beyond metro cities. He added that the industry now requires more focused engagement rather than just increased access.
Conference-Led Format with Insightful Platforms
A key differentiator of WTM Spotlight India will be its conference-led approach, designed to deliver actionable insights alongside business networking. The event will feature:
- Leadership discussions and expert panels
- Market intelligence sessions
- Strategic forums addressing global travel trends
Dedicated platforms such as the Intelligence Hub and executive forum “The Exchange” will offer deep insights into consumer behaviour, emerging markets, and future growth opportunities.
In addition, WTM Immerse will showcase experiential travel concepts, while WTM TV will extend knowledge-sharing and industry insights to a broader audience.
India’s Growing Influence in Global Tourism
The launch of WTM Spotlight India reflects India’s rapid transformation into a key global tourism driver. Factors such as rising disposable incomes, improved international connectivity, and increasing demand for premium and experience-driven travel are fuelling both outbound and inbound tourism growth.
Emerging cities and regional markets are also playing a crucial role, creating new opportunities for global travel brands to tap into previously underserved segments.
Strengthening the MICE and Global Travel Ecosystem
From a broader perspective, WTM Spotlight India is expected to play a pivotal role in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector. By combining exhibition, conference, and curated networking formats, the event aims to create a high-impact platform for knowledge exchange and business expansion.
As India continues to gain prominence on the global travel stage, WTM Spotlight India is positioned to become a key marketplace for international collaboration, partnership development, and long-term industry growth.
