Arab Fashion Week was held in Dubai district design (D3), featuring a Pink Carpet for celebrities and influencers. Lebanese Singer Maya Diab sang a few of her hits.
The fashion week hosted leading brands like Armani, Dior, Giorgio and Aquazzura along with regional designer brands like Yara Bin Shakar,Ihab Jiryis, Autonomie, Zeena Zak and Emergency Room Beirut. The long awaited event was planned by the Arab Fashion Council, led by CEO Jacob Abrian and Chief strategy officer Mohammed Aqra.
1. Fashion Icons Barbie and Jeremy Scoll, received awards.
Barbie ruled the Fashion Icon awards.As guests Iconic dolls dating back to 1950s were lined at the entryway. After over 500 industry members voted anonymously, the classic barbie took the award home. (Kim Culmone, Senior Vice President of Global Barbie Design for Mattel received the award). Jacob Abrian, founder and chief executive of the Arab Fashion Council, commented on Barbie’s win saying, it has set the bar high.
The medal of honour was given to Jeremy Scott, creative director for Moschino, by the Arab Fashion Council. The designer thanked the council and showcased his Barbie collection.
2. Jordanian-American teen performer grabbed the limelight.
Emanne Beasha, a 13-year-old singer, sang Puccini’s “O Mio Babbino Caro.” Her performance was appreciated by the room full of celebrities, influencers and industry members.
3. Ihab Jiryis’ Palestinian Couture was a big hit.
Ihab Jiryis is an evening and bridal gown designer, and Arab Fashion Week being his first physical show. He launched his brand 12 years ago, his designs strongly resonating with his region. The catwalk show was packed with sequins in long and short gowns in varied color palette ranging from nudes, light blues, grays and forest green.
4. A special women focused collection by Yara Bin Shakar.
Yara Bin Shakar, an Emirati Gown designer, showcased a women centric collection with comfortable clothes suitable for evening and day wear. She kept her palette pastel feminine with light prints and fabrics. AFW marked milestone for her business, she launched her online store, reaching international market
5. A Lebanese sustainable brand as AFW.
Emergency Room Beirut, is a sustainable brand launched by Eric Mathieu Ritter. The fabric and materials are assembled from dead stocks, sourced from Tripoli souks.
The designer used sheets and comforters to convert them into shirts and pants, styled in a way that would be recognizable to anyone from his homeland. This collection was among the best collections of AFW events, having best meaningful insights.
