Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announces the opening of the new smart city,i.e, Expo City Dubai in October. The City will be environment-friendly and tech-enabled backed by sustainability, innovation, education, and entertainment. Mohammed bin Rashid, UAE Vice President and also the ruler of Dubai, stated that the event Expo 2020 was a historical success as it was visited by more than 24 million visitors. Also, it has left a permanent mark in the 170-year-old history of the World exposition. Thus, he announced the transformation of the Expo 2020 exhibition site into Expo City Dubai, which will signify the ambitions of Dubai.
He further described Expo City Dubai will be a city that will be friendly to the environment, families, economies, and most importantly to the future. The City will be connected to a port and two airports. It promises to provide beautiful memories in the hearts of millions of people. This is a city in which the magic of Expo City 2020 will continue to live on forever. Many Expo 2020 sites will remain to fascinate the visitors like Al Wasl, the waterfall, and Pavillions of UAE, Alif and Terra will be there.
The new smart city promises to be the home of new businesses, innovation, and education. It will have an extraordinary museum, and world’s class exhibition center, and will become the headquarters of many fast-growing companies. It will also have some pavilions similar to the Expo City 2020 such as Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Egypt, and others. Features of Expo City Dubai
Expo City Dubai is a legacy plan of Expo 2020 Dubai and also a part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master plan. The City came into existence because of the historical success of the six-month world Expo which aims to create an environmentally friendly and tech-enabled city for the future.
Chief Development and Delivery Officer at Expo 2020 Dubai, Ahmed Al-Khatib said that the Expo City Dubai will be fully pedestrianized and cars will not be allowed in the city as the city aims to be sustainable and environmentally friendly. The visitors can use soft mobilities like bikes and buggies as the medium of transport.
Expo City Dubai will be a vibrant, human-centric smart city operated by sustainability, innovation, education, and the environment. It will be a hub for many businesses. It will contain almost 1200 LEED-certified buildings which are built on the principles of sustainability. The City is designed under the blueprint of green urban planning. It will be free of single-use plastic and will contain almost 80 per cent of Expo-built infrastructure.
The City will be the first WELL-certified community in the region that will put human wellness and health first. It will contain 10 kilometres long bicycle track, 5 kilometres running track, and a huge amount of parks and gardens.
Common Attractions of Expo City Dubai and Expo 2020
Set to open in phases from September, Expo City Dubai will have many attractions same as the Expo 2020 such as pavilions, technology, and entertainment offerings. It will carry forward the magic of events, knowledge, energy, and excitement.
With many diversified attractions, the new smart city will contain offices, leisure facilities, sports, food and entertainment, and a mall. It will also have an amazing Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC) which is the most expected place to host a great number of global summits, conferences, and concerts during the Expo 2020 event.
Expo 2020’s most visited attractions, Al Wasl Plaza, the Garden in the sky observation tower, and the surreal water feature will remain the same in the city. Also, the Pavillions, Alif, the mobility Pavillion, Terra, and the sustainability Pavillion will continue to provide educational experiences.
The Opportunity Pavillion will be converted into the memorable Expo 2020 Museum which will be a highlight of the most celebrated world Expo and the success of the six-month event.
The Woman’s Pavillion will also be there which features the female leaders that are making changes across the world and also the Vision Pavillion which signifies the vision of Mohammed bin Rashid
UAE Pavillion and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Pavillion will remain as it is. Pavillions of other countries like Luxembourg, Australia, India, Pakistan, Morocco, and Egypt will be opened after reworking them.
