The QEII Centre Marks Four Decades as a Leading Events Venue
London’s iconic QEII Centre is celebrating its 40th anniversary this month, commemorating four decades of hosting world-class conferences, exhibitions, government meetings, and international events. The milestone coincides with another successful year for the venue, which has reported exceptional sales growth for the third consecutive year, with revenue nearly £1 million ahead of the same period in 2025.
Opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 24 June 1986, the QEII Centre has become one of the United Kingdom’s most prestigious event destinations. Over the past 40 years, the venue has welcomed more than eight million visitors and hosted over 14,000 national and international events.
A Landmark Venue in the Heart of Westminster
Located in Westminster, London, the QEII Centre offers stunning views of Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, and Big Ben. Originally designed to host major international government conferences, the venue has evolved into a premier destination for corporate meetings, exhibitions, conventions, and special events.
Its strategic location and state-of-the-art facilities have made it a preferred choice for event organizers from around the world.
Hosting Historic Events and Global Gatherings
Throughout its history, the QEII Centre has played a key role in some of the most significant events in modern history. The venue has hosted prestigious gatherings such as the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
More recently, the centre served as a major media hub during the Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and the Coronation of King Charles III, highlighting its importance in supporting globally significant occasions.
The venue’s longest-standing client, the British Thoracic Society, has partnered with the QEII Centre for an impressive 34 years. Its busiest year came in 2012 when it hosted the Italian Paralympic House during the London Olympic Games.
Investing in Innovation and Future Growth
As the events industry continues to evolve, the QEII Centre remains focused on innovation and customer experience. The venue has invested heavily in advanced audiovisual systems, event technology, and premium hospitality services.
Among its latest initiatives is the introduction of Michelin Dinner Packages in partnership with Green Michelin-starred chef Will Devlin. The centre has also launched QEII Stays, a dedicated accommodation booking service developed with BCD Meetings and Events, helping delegates access seamless event travel solutions.
Additionally, the venue’s Dare to Be Bold campaign reinforces its commitment to acting as a creative event partner, delivering unique and memorable experiences beyond traditional venue services.
Leadership Reflects on 40 Years of Success
Saf Ismail, Chief Executive Officer of the QEII Centre, described the anniversary as an opportunity to celebrate the venue’s remarkable legacy while looking ahead to future growth.
He stated that the QEII Centre has long served as a meeting place for global leaders, innovators, experts, and decision-makers across diverse sectors including politics, healthcare, education, technology, and sport. He also highlighted the centre’s strong pipeline of multi-year bookings and revenue performance that continues to exceed expectations.
